Tae Kwon-Do

Taekwon-Do

Translated from Korean, “Tae” literally means to jump or kick with the foot. “Kwon” means a fist, chiefly to punch or strike with the hand or fist. “Do” means art, way or method. Taekwon-Do indicates the technique of unarmed combat for self defence, involving the skilled application of punches, kicks, blocks, dodges and interception with the hands, arms and feet.Proven to be one of the most powerful systems of self defence ever devised.

It is an ancient form of unarmed combat practiced for many centuries in the Orient. Taekwon-Do became perfected in its present form in South Korea.

The Taekwon-Do we practise today had it's introduction into the world on 11th April 1955.

Originating from and evolved into its present form by Major General Choi Hong Hi (1918-2002) & introduced into Great Britain by Rhee Ki Ha in 1967.

To the Korean people, Taekwon-Do is more than the mere use of skilled movements, it is a way of life, with a philosophical side that instills the concept of Spirit and Self Mastery.

To hone the fine skills of defence and attack, strengthens the ability to neutralize negative or potentially dangerous encounters.
